Introducing our Analysts
Nimesha (Chief Executive Officer):
With over eight years at Frontier Research, Nimesha has worked her way to the top as CEO, earning her rightful title as the team’s “Boss Lady.” Now leading the firm, she keeps her team of 15 (or around that number) on track, ensuring their insights are as sharp and timely as a well-tuned watch—because if there’s one thing she can’t stand, it’s being late (or anyone else being late, for that matter). Whether she’s driving innovation, building lasting client connections, or championing team growth, Nimesha brings her grounded resilience, balanced views and unwavering commitment to carrying forward the legacy of Frontier’s late founder, Amal Sanderatne—all while keeping everyone running like clockwork.
Thilina Panduwawala (Senior Macroeconomist):
Thilina, Senior Macroeconomist at Frontier, is the go-to for macro-analysis and forecasting, connecting the dots between politics and economics. After a stint at the ADB, where he kept tabs on Sri Lanka’s economy during the pandemic, Thilina returned to Frontier in 2022. Beyond his day job, he’s a published researcher with work featured in international media, research conferences and academic journals. For the team, Thilina is the calm in any storm—no matter how chaotic things get, he remains unshakably collected. A lover of butter cake, he’ll lighten the mood with a pun while solving macroeconomic puzzles.
Chayu Damsinghe (Head of Macroeconomic Advisory):
Chayu, Head of Macroeconomic Advisory at Frontier Research, is the team’s go-to for decoding macroeconomic risks and tying them seamlessly into Sri Lanka’s ever-evolving economic story. Whether it’s navigating debt crises, unraveling monetary and financial sector challenges, or analyzing energy developments, Chayu’s expertise shapes Frontier’s views across dimensions on interest rates and the LKR, which he shares with clients and the media alike. But beyond the data, Chayu is the team’s resident philosopher-poet, rocking his signature long hair, beard, and colorful outfits with a flair only he can pull off—often accessorized with a stick to go alongside his creaky joints (and maybe for just a touch of gravitas). Known for his high confidence and knack for mentoring, he’d gladly take the whole team under his wing if time allowed. Curious, charismatic, and unapologetically himself, Chayu is the kind of leader who leaves a lasting impression—just ask him, he’ll tell you all about it!
Anjali Hewapathage (Deputy Head of Macroeconomic Research):
Anjali, Senior Research Lead at Frontier, is a force to be reckoned with across the company’s economic research landscape. From steering banking and financial sector insights to shaping forecasts on credit, consumer demand, and inflation, her work keeps Frontier ahead of the curve. But there’s more to Anjali than sharp analysis - she is also a natural teacher - often sharing her knowledge with clarity and patience, even if her knack for mentoring tends to fly under the radar. Known for her witty humor and bold choices (including some infamous haircuts), she’s also earned the dubious honor of being the only team member to scare a client with just one look. When she’s not crunching numbers, you’ll find her indulging in some retail therapy, amassing a collection of random buys she may or may not even use! Versatile, bold, and always up for a laugh, Anjali keeps things interesting both in and out of the research world.
Arshad Ismail (Senior Research Lead):
Arshad, Senior Research Analyst at Frontier Research, is a master at making sense of complex economic puzzles, focusing on how global events and macroeconomic trends ripple through the local economy. A graduate of the University of Colombo, he’s earned his stripes by delivering clear, actionable insights that help clients navigate uncertainty. Outside of Frontier, he’s the driving force behind iTutorSL, preparing over 300 A-Level Economics students for success. Known affectionately by the team as a “kind doer,” Arshad is rarely seen without his signature smile, which pairs perfectly with his stress-free approach to life. And his passion for cricket? So intense that the team suspects he has a secret pact with ESPN Cricinfo! Whether crunching numbers or cheering from the stands, Arshad brings positivity and calm wherever he goes.
Navinda Meepe (Research Analyst):
Navinda, a Business Economics graduate from the University of Colombo, is a Research Analyst at Frontier with a knack for macroeconomic analysis, particularly in market liquidity and capital markets. With interests spanning from Tourism, F&B, and Banking, he’s made his mark contributing to publications like the Daily FT, delving into the impact of tourism on forecasting models with his colleagues. Before Frontier, Navinda sharpened his skills as an accounts manager at a digital marketing agency and as an intern at a leading private bank. Once a skillful footballer at university and school, he now channels that same confidence into his work—and his charm, as the team jokingly notes, seems to attract quite the fan club (wink!) Known for his fun and supportive nature, Navinda’s also had his fair share of discoveries—like learning only recently that coconuts have water inside! Always ready to lend a hand, he’s as dependable as he is entertaining.
Tharangi Sumanaweera (Research Associate/Remote Team Manager):
Tharangi, a Junior Research Analyst at Frontier, wears many hats, contributing to the Economic Research team while expertly managing the remote team operations. An Economics and Statistics graduate from the University of Peradeniya, she’s also polished her global perspective with a diploma in Diplomacy and World Affairs from BIDTI. Before joining Frontier, she gained valuable experience as a Client Relations Officer and as an intern at a private commercial bank. Known affectionately as the “patient one” of the team, Tharangi brings calm and composure to every challenge. A proud Kandyan, she’s earned the nickname “Watawala Duwa,” a nod to her roots and her graceful, grounded personality.
Theeksha Gunasinghe (Trainee Research Analyst):
Theeksha, a dynamic final-year undergraduate at the University of Colombo’s Department of Business Economics, is a key contributor to the Economics Research Team at Frontier. He’s a natural leader, juggling roles as Rugby Captain and Sports Council President at the university like it’s no big deal. When he's not tackling complex economics or leading his team to victory, you can count on him for an adventure or a fun outing with the team—he’s always game for a good time! Outside of work and university, Theeksha lights up at community events, and let’s just say, his energy levels can go from zero to pocket dynamite in the blink of an eye—especially given his height! Always ready to bring the fun, he’s the perfect blend of brains, leadership, and a whole lot of personality.
Himaru Yatipansalawa (Trainee Research Analyst):
Himaru, a Trainee Research Analyst at Frontier, is a final-year Economics undergraduate at the University of Peradeniya with a flair for Marketing and a passion for diplomacy and international affairs. With Model United Nations experience and a diploma in International Relations from BCIS, he’s a natural at navigating complex global topics. Before joining Frontier, Himaru sharpened his skills as a Marketing Intern and dedicated three years to AIESEC, where his leadership left a mark. Known for his ability to bring "Clarity" wherever he goes, Himaru might not win any dance-offs (he admits it’s not his forte), but his charm and kindness make him a favorite both in the team and beyond. Always ready with a thoughtful perspective, he’s a perfect mix of intellect and heart.
Shihara Ferdinando (Trainee Research Analyst):
Shihara, a Trainee Research Analyst at Frontier, is a powerhouse of multitasking. She balances her contributions to Economics research alongside her fourth-year undergraduate studies at the University of Colombo and her final-year pursuit of an LLB from the University of London. With experience spanning think tanks, market research, and NGOs, she brings a well-rounded perspective to the table. Resilience is her superpower—she faces challenges head-on with an unwavering determination. A lover of orange cats (don’t ask why, it’s a thing), Shihara is also a certified foodie, always on the hunt for exciting flavors and new food spots. And let’s not forget her pun game—it’s strong enough to make the entire team groan and laugh at the same time!
