Re-escalations in the Middle-east have resulted in oil prices shooting above USD 100/bbl mark and remaining there for multiple weeks during October, which was a clear negative that we spoke about time and time again during the past few months. In such a context, where would the domestic economy fit in within our scenarios and the timing of any changes that are likely to come through is something we address during out latest monthly report in October – “Delayed, not Derailed”.
While we take a closer look at global oil prices and its recent shoot up as a result of the latest flair ups in the middle east in this month’s Focus, we do attempt to identify what it means for the domestic economy – particularly for inflation and rates - and the timing of when the structural features we’ve highlighted before may start to come through in a more visible way.
We take a closer look at how the recent developments – in the Middle-east AND within Sri Lanka – have played out and impacted Fiscal performance so far while laying out our expectations for the upcoming budget in November. We take into account the key global elections which are on the way and how they may play out within the broader scheme of things before tying this altogether to lay out our expectations for the timing of when we think the positivity of the structural transition may become much clearer.
